New Thurlow 10 route
For reasons beyond our control we have had to make some changes to the
Thurlow 10 route this year. The new route is still a figure of 8 course,
with each loop approximately 5 miles. One big advantage of the new route
is that it only uses public footpaths, so we can run it as many times as
we like before race day in October. You are all invited to join Trev for
a gentle run around the first 4.5 miles of the course on Thursday 18th
April. Please park at the sports and recreation ground on the main road
through the village, and arrive in plenty of time to start promptly at
7pm. We will stop to regroup as necessary, so this isn’t just for the
quick folks. We will run the second half of the route on Thursday 23rd
May, so put the date in your diaries. All normal 7 o’clock runs from the
Leisure Centre will continue as normal on these dates.

Tuesday Training at 6.30pm
The Tuesday training session with Trev will move up to Castle Manor Upper School from 16th April. We will have use of the 400m grass running track, plus unrestricted access to the expansive school grounds. Car parking will be accessible via the rear entrance to the school (see map), and changing facilities will be available within the sports block. The school offers a very varied terrain which will enable us to mix up the sessions a bit, from straight forward track sessions to hill work and some longer reps. This may sound daunting if you haven’t tried it before, but these sessions are actually the easiest ones for new runners to join in and have a go. Because no matter how fast or slow you run, you’ll still be in the same place as everyone else for the whole session. All welcome.

Tarpley 10/20
There was a big club turnout for the first of this year’s Grand Prix events on Sunday 24th March as 16 runners took on the Tarpley 10, with a further 9 abandoning all reason and tackling the 20. There were strong performances in both distances from all runners on a bitterly cold but dry morning near Bury St Edmunds, on an undulating, rural and well-marshalled course.
On the day they picked up their awards for last year’s excellent 1st and 2nd places in the Suffolk Grand Prix, Paul Game and Martin Speller again led the way for the club, Paul finishing 8th in the 10 with a superb PB of just over an hour, and Martin coming home in 15th place in the 20 with an equally impressive performance and a time of 2hr 14mins. John Oakes ran for C&C and thus missed out on the honour of first Haverhill runner home, but 5th place in the 10 and another 1st in his age group will have softened the blow.
Behind John and Paul in the 10, a host of runners recorded good times, notably Mark White with a big PB, with Jamie Randall, Mandy Bunn and Sandra Hiscox also getting their best times for the distance, and impressive WAVA scores from all runners, Cheryl Trundle and Terry Braverman in particular.
But it was in the 20 that the club really excelled, with our ladies team of Natasha Scott (PB), Sil Clay (big PB) and Sian Barker securing 1st place with three excellent runs. Strong performances also from Martin Lawrence, despite running with an injury, Justin Merry and Mark Carpenter meant it was a great day all round for Haverhill.
Results for all Haverhill runners can be found in the usual place on the club website, for full results click on the following links:

Great Bentley HM, Folksworth 15 and Braintree Boggle.
14 runners from the club braved the cold and windy conditions today to race at Great Bentley,
Folksworth and Braintree. Despite the conditions nearly everyone had a good day, with several runners getting new PB's, Nick K, Darren C , Cil C and Kym Cromarty-Horscroft that I know of, though there might be others, let me know! Also a mention for Theresa J and Dave E, out lone representatives at the tough Folksworth 15 and Braintee Boggle respectively.

Thurlow 10 to be Suffolk Grand Prix Race.

Good News for the club from Suffolk County Athletics, who have decided to make our own Thurlow 10 part of the Suffolk Grand Prix series. This should greatly increase the prestige and interest in the event this year, which can only be good for the club.
